Swen Nater is a retired Dutch-American professional basketball player who played in the NBA from 1973 to 1984. He was born on January 14, 1950, in Den Helder, Netherlands. Nater is known for being one of the best rebounders in the history of college basketball and the NBA.

Nater played college basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), under legendary coach John Wooden. He was a key player on the UCLA teams that won back-to-back NCAA championships in 1972 and 1973. Nater led the nation in rebounding in both of those seasons.

After college, Nater was selected in the 1973 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He went on to play for several teams during his NBA career, including the Buffalo Braves, San Diego Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers. Nater was known for his rebounding prowess, as he led the NBA in total rebounds in the 1979-80 season.
